OUR STORY
The Old Dairy was born out of the idea of a place to hang out and enjoy a good cup of coffee and a fresh bite to eat, something that typically would only be found in the city. Co-owners and siblings, Kahlan and Ellie have always dreamt of running their own coffee spot. During university Kahlan spent 4 years in London working in various coffee shops and cocktail bars where he learnt most of his trade whilst Ellie was working in various bakeries and restaurants. Kahlan spent most of his time around studying visiting and working in various cities across Europe and America, he found so much joy waking up in a new city each day and using coffee as a way to not only explore, but anchor himself. A local coffee shop is always comforting; even if you are thousands of miles away from home, you can still feel part of a community. The pandemic caused a hault in both their pathways and this is where The Old Dairy started. They used lockdown to focus on their neighbourhood and create a haven from what has recently felt like an unpredictable, hard and lonely time. The Old Dairy is an embodiment of all their favourite experiences of cafes around the world distilled into one beautiful space, and they really hope you enjoy it.
OUR SUPPLIERS
We work hard to keep our coffees seasonal, and constantly change our selection to bring new coffees to Oulton Broad. All our beans are single-origin and ethically and sustainably sourced by Strangers Norwich. We are proud to use a La Marzocco Linea Classic espresso machine from Florence, the few existing hand-made machines still available. We also try to work with suppliers who are doing good things, including Mork (ethically-sourced hot chocolate), Brew Tea Co., Minor Figures, MOMO Kombucha, Daily Dose juices (made from wonky veg) and Lemonaid (organic and fair-trade lemonade).
We sell a curated selection of locally-baked sourdough bread sandwiches, toasties, bagels and fresh pastries every day, including gluten free and vegan options. Our brunch menu is served 7 days a week and is made up of seasonal and local produce.
